House renovation: June 2022

Busy month with no visible progress.

As expected, planning application received no appeals. So we are good to go.

Thus, we are ready for... not construction yet. But for more design work. With more details now. Electrical, mechanical, etc.

Philip contacted people he worked with so started looking for:

  • Structural engineer
  • Mechanical & Electrical engineer
  • Quantity Surveyor

We found structural & mechanical engineers with no major issues. However QS - a person whose job is to help keep the whole project under the budged - was a problem. All of them are busy with other projects so it looks like we'll have to wait.

Speaking of budget, thanks to certain dictator who invided neighbour country, the inflation is starting to raise. Prices of building materials are affected more than other things. So we are now starting to have concerns about moneys available to us. The fact each of additional consultants had their own fee proposal didn't help.

Nonetheless, per Philip's advice we also went around various showrooms to see and selected:

  • Windows: decided to go with Rationel
  • Bathroom's sanitaryware
  • Provisionally selected internal doors
  • Some of the materials, e.g. bricks for the extension
